How openchats handles your data

openchats lets people share insightful AI conversations. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what happens when you choose to share chats through the website or browser extension.

Last updated: May 2, 2026

What we collect

We collect the information needed to run openchats. This may include your account details such as email address, name, profile image, and username; chats you upload or choose to share; profile activity such as follows, notifications, and upvotes; and technical information needed to keep the service working, such as basic request, device, and error data.

How we use it

We use this information to authenticate users, operate the product, show profiles and shared chats, support features like follows and notifications, improve reliability, investigate abuse, and understand how openchats is being used so we can keep improving it.

Public and private content

If you publish a chat on openchats, that chat may be visible to other users and may appear in feeds, profile pages, notifications, and rankings. Anonymous chats hide your identity on the shared chat itself, but the chat content is still stored and processed by openchats. Please do not upload information you do not want stored or shared.

Browser extension

The openchats browser extension reads conversation content from supported AI chat pages only when you use it to import a chat. It stores limited local data such as session state and configuration needed for the extension to function. It does not need broad access to unrelated browsing activity.

Authentication and third parties

We use third-party services where needed to operate openchats, including authentication providers and infrastructure providers. Those services may process data on our behalf. When you sign in with a third-party identity provider, we receive the profile data necessary to create and maintain your account.

Analytics

We may use Google Analytics to understand how people use openchats, such as which pages are visited, how features are used, and whether the product is working reliably. Google Analytics may collect information such as device and browser details, approximate location, usage events, and information stored through cookies or similar technologies.

Retention and deletion

We keep data for as long as it is needed to operate the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and prevent abuse. Shared chats, account records, and related activity may remain in backups or logs for a period of time even after removal from the active product.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information. We also do not claim that openchats is a secure place for highly sensitive data. You are responsible for deciding what content you upload and share.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as openchats evolves. When we make meaningful changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
